With the unprecedented amount of snow all over the country now, I thought a few snow related activity ideas might be useful!
When the children have built the real snowman outside and need to warm up indoors, make a snowman on your interactive whiteboard or PC, with a few different versions to try. Or read along with this simple book, whilst building the snowman and sing 1 little, 2 little snowmen song at the end. For another counting song for young children to listen to and sing along to, try 5 Little Snowman, which comes with 'switch'. Try making a paper plate snowman or snowman puppet or necklace.
You could try designing and playing with your own interactive snowflakes. Or, if you prefer, download and print a whole range of snowflake designs, or do an experiment to find out if every snowflake really is different. Play an interactive online game catching snowflakes and gaining points in order to build a snowman. Or perhaps you would like to try some interactive puzzles to re-arrange the snowflakes.
Read a selection of snow related poems for children,or look at these art displays for inspiration and ideas. Keep them busy in the warm with more snow related art and craft ideas, puzzles and printables. Find out more about the snowy weather from the children's section at the metoffice, who offer a range of weather related children's activities online.
Watch Spot have a snowball fight in this short video clip, which could be used as a discussion or story starter, or if you would like to make some snow related resources to use or for display, scroll down for these numbers on snowmen or snowflakes. Try Communication4all's winter page for a selection of free printable resources including letters on snowglobes, numbers on snowmen or a winter word mat, or download their lovely winter photo pack.
Enjoy the snow with your children!
