Pound A Poem BookRays of Sunshine CharityPound a Poem is a poetry competition aimed at encouraging healthy eating and literacy, whilst at the same time helping children to raise money for other children, raising awareness of citizenship. The competition raises money for Rays of Sunshine, a charity raising money for terminally and seriously ill children.

The competition is open to children aged 5 - 11 years, in school years 1 - 6. Schools need to register and then enter the competition as a school. Individual children submit poems to their school competition, paying £1 for each poem submitted. The theme for the poems this year is 'Fruit and Vegetables'. Poems need to be handwritten, but can be word processed afterwards, so long as you keep the original handwritten script.

Schools judge their own poems and then submit the winning poem from each year group. All winning entries will be published in the Pound a Poem book, and the overall winner wins a holiday for four to Barbados!

The competition opens on 15th September 2008 and the closing date for entries is the 12th December 2008.
